About Wild Cymru
Wild Cymru is a charity founded in 2018 in response to the growing need for an independent nature conservation organisation in Wales. We do not accept government funding so that we can speak out and challenge environmental decision makers for wildlife without fear of financial reprisal. We balance campaigning and litigation with practical nature conservation delivery which involves community conservation, research and large-scale species and habitat restoration. Wild Cymru is also home to the all-Wales nature conservation journal, Natur Cymru, which is a nonpartisan publication designed to celebrate Welsh wildlife and to bring groups and individuals together to share nature conservation news, issues and solutions. Wild Cymru has been successful with fundraising to increase its capacity to challenge environmental decision makers in Wales by developing its own investigations team and increasing the organisation’s ability to deliver effective campaigns for nature.
Over the next three years we want to pioneer a fundamental shift in the nature conservation sector that will see greater emphasis being placed on holding environmental decision makers to account. We want to achieve this by exposing and challenging their attitudes, inaction, and decision making, where it has the potential to impact wildlife and the nature conservation sector in Wales. We are now looking for a talented investigative journalist to help with our mission, and to lead coverage of environmental and nature-related stories across Wales.
About the Role
As the Investigative Journalist for Wild Cymru, you will be at the heart of our new nature investigations team. We are dedicated to producing high-quality, impactful journalism that informs, challenges, and inspires change in Wales for the betterment of nature. Our work holds power to account and amplifies the unheard voices of nature and the places they call home.
You will uncover and report on the key environmental challenges facing Wales – from biodiversity loss and land management to climate change, pollution, and importantly the politics that shapes nature conservation. You’ll produce in-depth investigations, data-driven analysis, and compelling storytelling that brings complex issues to life for a wide audience. You will be involved in promoting investigations on TV, radio social media, online and in print.
