Role Location – Predominantly at Wild Cymru’s Community Wildlife Garden, Garnant, Ammanford.
Wild Cymru has been working in the Amman Valley since 2018 on various species and habitat restoration projects. In 2023, we established the Community Wildlife Garden in the heart of the Amman Valley. As well as being a place for nature and for people to enjoy nature, the Community Garden plays an essential role in Wild Cymru’s wider conservation efforts through the growing of wildflowers as well as a place for building boxes and refugia for wildlife. In addition, the Garden has become a hub for wildlife recording and a base for leading wildlife walks and surveys.
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, we aim to build on the community conservation work already undertaken at the Community Wildlife Garden. Wild Cymru are therefore looking to appoint a Wildlife Officer to work alongside local communities and volunteers to deliver nature conservation initiatives at our Wildlife Garden as well as linking them to our Llwyndewi Nature Reserve and our wider Amman Valley conservation projects.
Habitat and species restoration is core to Wild Cymru’s delivery in the valley, but it is crucial that local communities are at the heart of making it happen. The role ensures a presence at the community wildlife garden as well as working with schools and the community to engage with wildlife locally. We hope that this project will lead to further funding and investment in future.
